Take a walk with us, back in time
In the gentle green fringe of Ashford, where the A20 hums softly with continental promise and the lakes mirror the sky, sits the Conningbrook Hotel. Its story begins in the mid-20th century as the Pilgrim’s Rest, a reassuring pause for travellers long before passports and Eurotunnel tickets became everyday items, and the quiet Kent countryside played host to travellers heading north to London and beyond.
Later known as The Spearpoint, it grew into a familiar landmark, serving locals, lorry drivers and holiday-bound families alike. Under the care of Shepherd Neame it became a proper Kentish pub-hotel, convivial, dependable and warmly worn in. Today, thoughtfully reimagined, the Conningbrook remains a welcoming gateway to Europe — a place where journeys pause, stories gather, and the kettle is always on.
